Nurse’s Celebration

After all of the planning, driving, Costco trips, heavy lifting, and tacos… we finally finished Nurse’s Week and nursing Home Week 2012! yippee! I’m so happy. It was long, stressful, and tiring. The last thing on our agenda was to give to OUR nurses. :]

We had a fun, “California Farmer’s Market” theme going on and got to use the bunting from Melinda’s baby showers. (yay for recycling)

Babies and Bunting

Hello! Melinda and Eddie’s Friend Baby shower was last Saturday. We did a family one a couple of weeks ago but did not post pictures on that since we were using the same decorations. (Ahem Melinda) HA.

It was kind of a mixed theme: a little bit carnival, a little bit bright colors, and a “POP-ed” themed as well. Weird, but it turned out good, I think. I really didn’t get to take that many pictures of everyone, but here are a few:

My Mom actually made almost 300 feet of bunting for these parties! Big props to her.

We actually made almost 40 pinwheels for the party!

Look at this beautiful diaper cake that Justin and his mom made!

Thanks Missy for emceeing the games! You are the best. Seriously.

Thanks a bunch to everyone who helped set-up and clean after. You rock! especially you, Ashley. :]

Melinda and Eddie had a great time and really appreciated everyone coming to celebrate with them. Baby Ave Maria Sosa is lucky to have so many people that love her!

How to Make A Vintage Hidden Book

For Valentine’s Day, I made Martin a secret hidden book. It found and copied a tutorial online which I adjusted a little. i hope you enjoy this little DIY. I’m not great at it, but I love making things, so I appreciate.

Step 1: Find a vintage book. I found this one at 3-Way Thrift on sale for 79 cents! What up.

Step 2: I glued the slides of the book so it would stay put and be easier to cut. I used mod podge, but you could really use whatever glue you have. I just so happen to have this lying around. It’s the best.

Step 3: Next, I cut through the pages. I tried to cut enough to fit the cards inside. (Although I would have added more space if I were to do it again. With the extra paper and glue, it was way bulkier than I anticipated) It is best to use a really good box cutter or scalpel. I had to cut and take out each page one by one. It took me almost 2 hours! Thanks Ashley for helping me!

Step 4: Next, I glued the inside of the book in order to keep it together. It ended up looking very stiff… almost like a plastic box.

Step 4: I printed a message for the front cover on aged vintage cardstock paper. I tried to made it look like it was meant to be a part of the book.

Next, I made the card part:

Step 5: I used these cards that were lying around. It was part of our deal to make a present using the stuff lying around. Since our household is filled with gambling and poker enthusiasts, I figured it was fitting to use something that embodied the spirit.

Step 6: I printed the 52 reasons separately and cut them out.

Step 7: I glued them down, and let them dry.

Step 8: I put them in order, and hole-punched the tops.

Step 9: I tied it with pretty red leather string, and voila! Done!

In total, it took about 3 hours to do everything. Over a span of 3 days… not too bad. I think it turned out well. I hope he likes it.

Valentine

For Valentine’s Day, Martin and I decided to make our gifts this year. Since we needed to save money, we thought it would be cute to use stuff we already had and create something new. My philosophy on thrifting anyhow.

I made him a box from a book entitled, “This is My Best Humor” I found at 3-way Thrift and put a small deck of cards with 52 reasons why I love him.

It really wasn’t all that great, but it took a while to put everything together. I’ll do a small DIY later on. It’s funny cause #9 was, “You sing to me”, #12 was, “You make me videos”, and #24 was, “You are a musician”… and he put all of those things together for MY valentine’s gift:

(I apologize if you do not have Facebook or if you are not Martin’s friend. I tried to rip it from the site, but they are just too smart for me)

Halloween Decorations

I know I am so late in finally making a post for this, but here’s some decorations we made for the Cross-trainer Halloween Party. Everything was inspired and created by me, Tracy, Marie, John John, Angelica, and Sylvie.

John John and Angelica painted these scary pictures and we hung them in the staircase. Made a great backdrop for the costume contest!

Sylvie made this amazing pumpkin carving!

I was inspired by this picture to make a sign out of pumpkins:

I saw this picture on pinterest too and wanted to make my own version of it.

We also put cobbwebs in the chamdelier which made it really spooky!

Tracy found these awesome bottles from the thrift store and we helped paint them to make potion bottles. She used them for the coffee stand. Read about it here.

I love hanging out, making things and decorating. all of these people are so great.

Rocky Horror Picture Show

A few months ago, I received a text from Katrina inviting us to watch Rocky Horror with them at a winery in Temecula. She and Nick went there last year and had a great time so they wanted to repeat the festivities. She sent me an e-mail with this website attached with a long list of random items each of us was supposed to bring so we could use them as props during the show. I volunteered to get everything prepared and put the bags together. There were ten people, ten bags, and lots of stuff. It was fun putting everything together!

Little did I know how many things were on the list!

There were a lot of things to buy for this show. I knew we would be throwing most of them so I decided to pack a lot of each thing. Here’s a few:

Rice: We threw this in the very beginning of the movie during the wedding scene.

Bells: I couldn’t find any large bells, so I tied each of the mini bells to a small string. Turns out we didn’t even know when to ring these bells! oh well.

Party hats: We put them on during the party scene. We also used the clappers and noise makers too.

All of the other items you can read about in their fan page.

Anyway, I personalized each little bag and I thought they turned out great, don’t you?!

We also had to dress up in costumes!

Martin and I went as a flapper and a 20′s bartender. (We really got our costumes last minute!) I thought it still turned out great though:

Eddie and Melinda went as Bacon and Eggs. So clever! They got second place during the costume contest! I told them they should have gone as Meagan and Eggs… they didn’t listen to me though. haha.

Missy went as a German Beer Maiden. She even drew on fake freckles!

Katrina and Nick went as Indians: (Red Feather and Red Dot)

Here are all of the ladies:

..and all of the guys!

Never seeing the movie before, I really didn’t know what to expect. We went without having any clue what we were getting ourselves into. It was very interesting, to say the least. But we really had a blast! I’ve never been to a movie where it was okay to shout things out. Nick was super good too, he knew all of the lines!

I had a really great time, The whole weekend was so much fun: making up songs in the car, gambling at Harrah’s, dancing with bananas, and eating pho at the buffet. I wish every weekend could be like this! I love these guys.

Halloween Give-a-Ways

I always have fun making things at work. Now that it’s nearing the end of the year, I’m trying to come up with some new items.

This month’s focus: Halloween!

Here are some things I made last week to give out:

I bought these cute buckets from the dollar section on Target, then filled them with candy. These usually sit on people’s desks at hospitals or health care centers. Perfect for the nurses who walk by!

(Everything looks better in cellophane!)

These small bags are packed with goodies:

I got these cat bags from Michael’s on sale: four for a buck. Not too shabby.

These cute Jack-O-Lanterns were found from Goodwill still in its wrapper. Thrift stores are actually really great for buying holiday stuff for cheap. Especially if they aren’t even used!

Halloween is a great time for cute little things like these!
