How to make Momofuku Milk Bar Compost Cookies

On our trip to New York last year, Martin and I came across many great things. These cookies were definitely top pick. Tracy mentioned them to us before we left and it took 1 petty cab, 1 taxi, and 3 blocks of sprinting to make it in the bakery before they closed for the day. Good thing we made it.

They were delicious.

Since then, I’ve tried and retried making these compost cookies. Some batches were good, others, not so great. Here is a small recipe in case anyone out in the blog world wants to try to make them.

What you’ll need:

1 cup of Butter (That’s 2 sticks, unsalted)

1 cup of granulated sugar

¾ cup light brown sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

2 large eggs

1 ¾ cups all purpose flour

2 tsps. Baking powder

1 tsp. baking soda

2 tsps of Kosher Salt

1 ½ cups of hodgepodge items (mini chocolate chips, raisinettes, rollos, cocoa krispies, baked potato chips, pretzels, etc..)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Crush all hodgepodge materials into tiny pieces to be put into baking mixture. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, put the cream butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar on medium high for 2-3 minutes until mixture becomes fluffy and pale yellow. Scrape down the sides with a spatula.
  4. On a lower speed, add  eggs and vanilla to incorporate
  5. Increase mixing speed to medium-high for 10 minutes. During this time, the sugar will dissolve fully and the mixture will become pale white in color and it should have doubled in size.
  6. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix at a lower speed for 40-60 seconds until your dough comes together and all remnants of dry ingredients have incorporated. Do not walk away or you will risk of over mixing the dough. Scrape down the sides with a spatula.
  7. On the same low speed, add in the hodgepodge of your favorite snacking ingredients until they evenly mix into the dough.
  8. Baking evenly on pan for 10-12 minutes. I used small scoops to make mini compost cookies.
  9. Let them cool for a couple of minutes (or eat them right off the pan like martin does)
  10. Enjoy with a small glass of milk.

Notice I don’t do a lot of cooking things around here, but I do enjoy baking sweets after a long week of work. Come over and have some!

Suitcases

Hello! sorry it has been awhile since I’ve posted. I’ve been trying to change the look and feel of the site. Have you noticed?! :] If you haven’t already, check out my friends page… I updated it! Take a look at the links…. they’re you know, pretty cool. We all support each other, which is what I love the most.

So I want to show some of the cool art pieces and furniture made from old, vintage suitcases:

This drawer from Rossanna Orlandi was fashioned out of vintage suitcases. So creative!

This one  is such an awesome side table. I am definately having some of these in my future house.

Bathroom Suitcases for storage:

I love vintage suitcases. They make me so happy. Whenever I see them at the thrift store, I need to physically stop myself from buying all of them. But, then again, I have to do that with almost everything that I see at thrift stores. ugh.

Anyway, here’s a quote for the day:

Anthro Love

A couple of days ago, Martin and I went to Victoria Gardens after work and had a nice date night…and since I LOVE Anthropologie, we made it a point to stop there!

Their store decorations are so artsy and creative. I want to try to copy some of the cool things they do in there. I Don’t know how they can come up with these things:

We had fun taking pictures and looking at all of their cool stuff…they always present everything in a nice way. They even have super cute gift boxes when you buy some of their nice cups. I’m a sucker for good packaging.

And they even have some pretty awesome gardening-themed items!

I wish I had the money to buy things from there! But I just like to look at their decorations and see what they can come up with. Someday, if I can afford to spend some of my savings, I’ll buy ONE thing from the sale section. lol. For now, I’ll settle for window shopping and creative copying. That’ll do for me.

Garden Inspiration

Earlier I said that I wanted to post some of my inspiration pictures for gardening, including some ideas I had on what I want. Today is the day, my friends! I’ve been so excited to start working on my garden – I’ve been to Home Depot more times this week than my whole life combined. I just wanted to look around, get some ideas, and buy some small pots and plants. Martin took me and bought lots of flowers and pots for me. Yaaayy! I love him.

On Saturday, we went to Armstrong Gardening Supplies to get some ideas and it just so happened to be across from our favorite dinner place, Honda-ya. We found a lot of cool stuff!

Isn’t this planter cute attached to the wall?

I hope I can get a fountain!

I want tons and tons of pots too:

A walkway kind of like this:

And succulents just like Anthropologie:

I’m so excited! I need some of my friends to come and garden with me, I promise it’s fun! And I’ll even let you eat one of the strawberries from my garden! But there’s only like 3 right now…so first come, first served! Hah.

I just love the idea of a front door. They welcome people, they’re a statement of who lives inside, and they complete a home and a place for a family. I love home decorations! hah

Aren’t these beautiful?

Today’s inspiration: treehouses

I love the way they look…and how tall they are. You can almost see how much imagination and creativity that goes on within them. Tree-houses. are. so. cool!

When I was little my Dad built us a treehouse out of three small, round wooden planks in our backyard. One for each of us. It was very simple/humble. Everyday after school, Melinda, Devyn, and I would go outside and play inside it into the night. It was like our little “clubhouse”.  Later, my Dad built a pulley-system that would let you swing from the top of the treehouse all the way to the other end of the yard. It was so much fun! We would take turns swinging on it all day. Thinking back, we had a pretty good childhood.

So…in honor of the good ol’ days, I wanted to show you all these awesome tree-houses, inspired by my childhood (plus some intense imagination and creativity).

Aren’t they beautiful? How amazing would it be to spend a weekend in one of these and sleep all day long? :)

Lovely Organizational Techniques.

Hello world!

Today’s post is all about organization. What is it? Why do it? What causes it? Any thoughts?

If you know me, you know that I’m an organization freak. I don’t show it often because I don’t want to look crazy, or I just don’t want them moving my stuff around, hah. I organize everything, from my high-heels (which are hung nicely with its own separate compartment) to my clothes (organized by dress, shirt, and colors, often changing) to even my underwear drawer (by color, type, and style, each with its own dividers). I get weirded out when things are left out or doesn’t have its own drawer. When I have time, I like to organize my closet all over again and clean my room, in an orderly fashion, with lists. Call me OCD, but I really just love the feeling of everything having its own place. I love boxes. I love storage containers…and I love the Container Store. My friends tell me that I like “boxes-within-boxes-within-boxes”. Which is true. And weird.

Not many people know this about me, of course, because that’s just plain embarrassing. Haha. I think it all started with my dad. Growing up, he never really kept the house the same. The furniture always moved around, new arrangements were made with our DVD’s and CD’s, our TV’s would move back and forth, upstairs, downstairs, and so forth. I think I grew up with his influence, and every once in awhile, I feel the need to move my stuff around and find a new place for everything. I’m just crazy like that.

On my pinterest page, I have a section for organizing, in which I posted a few of my favorite pictures found on the internet.

Organizing makes me really happy… is that weird? I like the feeling of an organized house and room…but life goes on. Things pile up, and the house gets messy. Life just happens. We can’t control the things that happen to us, and it may get unorganized. But every once in awhile, just like our faith, we need to rebuild it, clean it, reorganize, arrange it, and make it new again. Faith, just like our lives, can get tricky, complicated, and well, unorganized. But at the same time, there is beauty in its randomness, spontaneity, and adventure-ness. I don’t always keep up with this organized lifestyle…but I wish I could. I wish my house would look like the pictures above, but it doesn’t. Nothing is perfect and nothing is always organized. You kinda just have to go with the flow of things. Let things get a little messy, because that’s just life. You can’t have a mess to clean up without the adventure that put that mess there in the first place. But every once in awhile, it’s nice to make things neat and clean and start anew.

Brand new.
