Omi Around the Island

You’re probably sick of all of this stuff about Tahiti. Blah Blah Blah. Yes, I know. I mean, it’s been over a month since we got back. I really haven’t had much time to blog as of late. I apologize! I’m a horrible blogger. :(

Anyway, in the first week that we got to Tahiti, we were able to take a bus tour around the island.

With a few stops here and there, it took us about 5 hours to take the main road that goes all the way around. We stopped at a waterfall, saw an abandoned lighthouse, swam in a grotto, and even had time to eat at the Mcdonalds in Tahiti.

Here are some bus shots from my window:

First, we stopped at Point Venus:

We walked on a pretty nature trail:

Then, we went to a grotto filled with lilipads:

Stuck our feet in the water of a hollowed cave on the other side:

And we even ate at Mcdonalds for lunch! (Totally had to). It was actually pretty good. Notice the Mcbagette! Pretty pricey at $22 though. -_-

All in all, it was the perfect day! We got to see the entire island from the view of an air conditioned tour bus. Totally worth the $50.

Framed String

I made a new art piece for my room:

I used an old frame from the thrift store. It was only $4!

I was inspired to do this when I found this pinkish, scalloped-edged ribbon at 3 Way Thrift. It was steal at only $0.79! (Plus, it was a yellow ticket… meaning it was %50 off! Score.)

I tied short strings of it on the frame. This took a VERY long time.

Add letters and Tada! done. (I added these letters from an Anthropology After-Christmas Sale.) For less than $10, now you have a custom art piece out of random scraps. I typically start without knowing where I’m going and this was definitely one of those times.

See, my room is getting a little more crazy.

Talent in Color

One of the great things about New Orleans is the art. Indubitably. I love art. Any kind of art. The streets of Bourbon, Royal, and Canal are lined with tons of talents artists, magicians, musicians, and vendors waiting to see if any passerby would stop to admire their work. Many of these people have come long ways and have such a rich back story. You can tell just by looking at them.

Martin, being a musician that he is, always stopped to listen and appreciate the music surrounding us. He always tipped them too.

Every chance we got, we would look at what they would do. It took quite awhile for us to walk around because we stopped so many times!

I mean, we couldn’t resist with all of these beautiful things!:

This guy was sitting out in the heat for a loooong time! I didn’t even realize he was real until I went a little bit closer and saw sweat dripping from his nose:

Honestly, I can go on and on about the sounds and vibes of New Orleans, but I won’t. Let’s leave it at how beautifully talented the city is.

Art can come from everywhere and in everything, but only if you open your eyes to see it.

Small Fragments

New Orleans was the first trip I took with my new camera. I spent most of the time learning how to use it. It got difficult learning how to take pictures whilst walking around and seeing so many great things. I never knew how hard it is to use an SLR camera. Its quite tricky! I really respect people who are so great at it. (wide|openaperature, I’m lookin at you!)

Earlier, I posted about my favorite beignets, and a few pictures about the Bourbon Street nightlife but I really didn’t get to publish all of the other pictures I took. Here are a few more of my favorites: These are from the first day of sightseeing as we walked around. Luckily, Our hotel was so close to everything! (ps, I don’t have Photoshop yet, so forgive these pictures, They are very raw and real. Just like the people in New Aw’lens. :])

I spy a pretty bunting!

I have more to come, But I just wanted to document these and spend some time reflecting. I feel so blessed to have been able to go on this trip. I loved every minute of it. It’s such a beautiful, artsy, and friendly city. Next I want to show how amazingly talented everyone in the city is!
